Plot
In the heart of Berlin's winter, three young Georgians find themselves tasked with cleansing an imposing castle, the venue for a forthcoming exhibition. This castle, an embodiment of power and wealth, houses the extensive contemporary art collection of a German armament tycoon. The trio, representatives of the proletariat, find themselves exiled to a cramped attic room, their presence deemed unfit for the grand opening party unfurling below them.
Yet, the allure of a lavish buffet downstairs awakens their desire to challenge the unspoken class demarcation. They ask themselves: didn't the French Revolution ignite over a mere piece of cake? Swept into a whirlpool of historical and fantastical tales, from the adventures of Saint Francis to a mystical séance in the Soviet Union, they grapple with the daunting question: Can the seemingly insurmountable barrier of class relations truly be shattered when every inherited story asserts its invincibility?
In their quest for an answer, they confront stubborn clouds, oppressive neo-liberal work conditions, and the doom-laden pettiness of the bourgeoisie. They even tangle with the agents of a disorienting late-capitalist conspiracy. With a form of laziness branded as messianic, they defy these adversaries, painting a vivid tableau of resistance.
"A Proletarian Winter's Tale" is a formalist comedy wrapped in the cloak of a fairy tale. It is a daring exploration of class relations, a narrative spun by a metaphorical black hole. It is a tale of defiance, of dreams, and of the quest to breach society's invisible but formidable walls, all set against the backdrop of a frost-kissed German castle.
