As the clock ticks towards midnight on Christmas Eve, an eclectic band of store employees find themselves tethered to the Xmas-O-Rama, a run-down Christmas emporium nestled in the heart of a working-class New Jersey suburb. At the helm of this shambolic holiday ship is Mike Malcolm, an unscrupulous gambler whose mounting debts come knocking in the form of two intimidating debt collectors. In a desperate bid to keep his kneecaps intact, Mike vanishes into the night, lured by the siren call of a nearby card game where he hopes to turn his luck around.
Left to man the fort, the store's diverse crew, predominantly non-Christian, grapple with their complicated relationship with the yuletide season, their roles as outsiders looking in on a holiday that's not entirely their own. As they wait for their wayward boss to return with their overdue paychecks, the quirky rush of last-minute shoppers provides the backdrop to a night of revelation. Amid the twinkling lights and tinsel, they each uncover their unique interpretations of the holiday spirit, unearthing hidden religious pride, misunderstandings, and unspoken jealousy, all while secretly cherishing the omnipresent charm of Christmas, that despite their differences, binds them together in an unexpected brotherhood.
