Plot

"A House on Fire" weaves a semi-fictional narrative around a true crime case, unraveling the lives of Drs. Debora Green and Michael Farrar. Married for seventeen years and blessed with two children, Timothy and Kelly, they lead a comfortable middle-class life in the heart of Kansas City, MO. Their romance had budded in the corridors of their medical residencies, with Mike always incredulous at his luck of winning the stunning and brilliant Deb, whose social ineptitude was hidden beneath her intellectual prowess. Deb embodies ambition in its rawest form, her obsession with perfection mirrored in her scrapbooks brimming with visions of an idyllic future, the crown jewel being a mansion she longs to call home. However, her career, contrary to expectations, is in a standstill, tethered by her dedication to her family and her clinical expertise that overshadows her lack of patient empathy. Meanwhile, Mike's career is on the brink of breakthrough, with a prospective promotion to head the Cardiology Department. As Deb's dream of perfection begins to blur, her erratic demeanor raises eyebrows. Whispers of self-medication, substance abuse, and potential bipolar disorder start to circulate, casting shadows over their marital bliss. Caught in the whirlwind are their children, Timothy and Kelly, as Deb and Mike pledge their actions are for their best interests. Deb, in her defense, claims she's fighting for the family's holistic well-being. The narrative of "A House on Fire" is retraced in the aftermath of a mysterious "incident", with Deb and Mike separately under the police radar, their interwoven stories slowly unraveling the truth behind their seemingly perfect facade.
