A Day at the Races (1937)

In the bustling town where conniving villain Morgan reigns supreme, an intriguing battle unfurls. He has his predatory eyes set on transforming Judy's beloved sanitarium into a casino; a sanctuary of healing threatened to be transformed into a den of gambling. Aiding Judy in this uphill struggle are an eclectic crew of allies: Dr. Hugo Hackenbush, a horse doctor audaciously masquerading as the sanitarium director; Tony, a loyal helper in the sanitarium; and Stuffy, a jockey who once danced to Morgan's tune. Adding another layer to this complex story is Judy's boyfriend, Gil. A crooner by profession, Gil has put all his eggs into one basket, investing his savings in Hi Hat, a racehorse. He hopes that the horse's victory will provide the funds to settle the sanitarium's looming debts. However, a startling revelation that Hi Hat is a jumper, not a racer, throws a spanner in the works. Undeterred, our motley crew sets out to win a high-stakes steeplechase race, while Morgan and his cronies scheme to keep the horse off the track. In the midst of this chaos, Dr. Hackenbush finds himself juggling his secret. His high-priced clinic for the affluent is thriving, but his patients are blissfully ignorant of his veterinary background. Meanwhile, the wealthy hypochondriac, Margaret Dumont, makes her obligatory appearance, holding the potential to save the sanitarium from its impending financial doom. In this whirlwind of ambitions, secrets, and underdog determination, 'A Day at the Races' is a riveting journey through a day that could change the course of many lives.
