3 Women (1977)

Baking under the Southern California sun, the desert community harbors three women, each on a unique quest for connection. Millie Lammoreaux, a physical therapist at a local seniors rehab center, paints herself as the social butterfly, a magnet for male attention at work, her apartment complex, and her cherished hangout - Dodge City, a peculiarly western-styled bar. Yet, unbeknownst to her or perhaps in stubborn denial, she remains an outsider, the subject of hushed whispers and hidden derision. In comes Pinky Rose, a naive, emotionally vulnerable young woman, fresh from small-town Texas. Landing a job at the same rehab center, Millie's vibrant facade entrances Pinky, leading her to seize the opportunity to replace Millie's outgoing roommate, Deidre. This sparks the ignition of their odd relationship, each fulfilling a void in the other, though not always for the best. Completing the titular trio is the enigmatic Willie Hart, a pregnant, silent artist who co-owns the apartment complex and Dodge City with her ex-stuntman husband, Edgar. Her canvas is the dry desert landscape, specifically the sides and bottoms of swimming pools. As both Millie and Pinky form volatile bonds with the often inebriated Edgar, it's Willie who may hold the key to the fulfillment they seek. The three women, after surviving emotional upheavals, begin to interchange and steal from each other's identities, forming an unconventional family unit. In this dance of personalities, each woman finds a piece of what she was yearning for, all under the vast, indifferent California desert sky.
