I'm Gonna Be An Angel! (1999)

In the uneventful life of the shy, high schooler Yuusuke, solitude is his only companion after his father departs overseas, leaving him alone in their family home for the first time. However, his humdrum existence is upended when he unexpectedly stumbles upon a naked girl, Noelle, adorned with a halo, sleeping serenely in a woodland. As she awakens, she astonishingly declares Yuusuke to be her husband. Despite his attempts to flee from this surreal encounter, he finds himself inescapably entwined with Noelle's life as she becomes a new student in his class and her peculiar family, resembling an ensemble of Munster doppelgängers, take over his now not-so-lonely home. Inspired by Yuusuke's unrequited feelings for his aloof crush, Natsumi, and his description of her as angelic, Noelle sets her heart on becoming an angel for Yuusuke. Her father is a fitness-loving Frankenstein's monster, her visually-captivating mother has an unusual fascination with round objects, and her elder sister, Sara, is inexplicably invisible. Adding more flavor to the family are Gabriel, a sullen teenage vampire, Ruka, the inventive youngest sister, and their disapproving witch of a grandmother with her faithful vulture familiar. Guiding Noelle in her celestial quest is the enigmatic Michael, while Yuusuke grapples with his newfound, chaotic reality. A potent mix of sugary sweetness tinged with a dash of darkness, 'I'm Gonna Be An Angel!' starts as a cute and fluffy tale, gradually unfolding into a more complex and twisted narrative.
