Print journalist Kim Baker is offered a promotion to on-camera talent. The catch? She'll have to move to Afghanistan. She reluctantly accepts, but quickly realizes that she's unprepared for life in Kabul. Her life alternates between fast-paced, drunken adventures with other foreign reporters and awkward attempts to follow Afghan cultural norms. As she falls in love with Afghanistan, she quickly learns that the American people aren't interested in the slice-of-life stories she wants to tell, and her old friends are no longer interested in her.
