Plot

In the bustling world of academia, four college companions - Tetsuo Horino, Taichirô Saiki, Kumada, and Shimazaki - find solace in their shared mediocrity and camaraderie. Saiki, a beacon of hope for his impoverished mother, is the only one amongst them who exerts effort in their studies, helping them to barely scrape past. Their sanctuary lies in a quaint bakery across their college, home to the charming Shigeko, who they consider an honorary member of their quartet. Each harbors a secret affection for her, but their pact of brotherhood forbids crossing the line of romance. Tetsuo's life is constantly stirred by his matchmaking uncle, Kanzô Horino, a man whose choices of potential brides are more interested in gold than love. Tetsuo's father, Kenzô, is his ally in this battle, devising inventive strategies to repel these women. However, an unexpected tragedy strikes when Kenzô abruptly passes away, leaving Tetsuo with the hefty responsibility of heading the family's prosperous venture, Horino Trading, and forcing him to bid farewell to his college days. A year later, Tetsuo, now a successful businessman, reunites with his friends - freshly graduated and seeking employment. As they step into the realm of adulthood, the dynamic among them shifts. Tetsuo, now their employer, holds the reins of power, while Saiki, Kumada, and Shimazaki navigate their roles as his employees. As their lives intertwine once again, Shigeko reappears in Tetsuo's world, but this time, in a different light. As they embark on this new chapter, they must grapple with the changing tides of friendship, power, and love.
