Plot

Under the cloak of night, a car is nestled in the quiet rural surroundings of Te Kaha Hotel and Pub in New Zealand, a beacon of life in the sleepy locale. Inside, two brothers, Romeo and Ed, around 10 years old, are cocooned in a world of their own, waiting for their parents. Ed is lost in a world of ink and paper, while Romeo, restless and curious, finds his attention wandering to the outside world. The monotony of the evening takes a turn when another car pulls up nearby, its only occupant a girl about their age named Polly, also left in the lull of waiting. An invisible thread of shared circumstance weaves itself between Romeo and Polly, sparking an exchange that starts with Romeo's cheeky insults. Polly, initially aloof, can't resist the lure of conversation and they embark on a verbal dance of teasing bravado and playful rebukes. As the night matures, Romeo dares to leave the safety of his car, drawn to Polly like a moth to a flame. Among the shared whispers and laughter, Romeo becomes fascinated by a diamond-studded ring Polly wears. He enlists Ed's help in his quest to examine the ring, shouting across the parking lot and disrupting Ed's peaceful reading. In this magical night where childhood innocence meets the edge of adolescence, Romeo and Polly navigate the waters of connection and trust. Will Polly let Romeo hold her precious ring? Underneath the starlit sky, two cars and one unforgettable night serve as the backdrop for a story of fleeting friendships, early crushes, and the simple magic that happens when two young souls meet.
