In the disappearing grasslands of Neimenggu (Inner Mongolia), we meet Tuya, a steadfast wife to Bater, a legless herdsman, who was crippled in his quest for water amidst relentless desertification. With Bater unable to tend to their flocks, Tuya is burdened with the sole responsibility of providing for their family. However, the strenuous labor takes its toll, leading to a lumbar dislocation that threatens Tuya with the prospect of paralysis.
Confronted with this harsh reality, they make the heartrending decision to divorce, granting Tuya the chance of a better life. Yet, her conditions for remarriage are unorthodox: her new husband must care not only for her and their children, but also for Bater and their dwindling land.
Embodying a blend of resilience and vulnerability, Tuya embarks on a challenging quest for a new husband. On her journey, she encounters suitors of varying countenances - the wealthy but insincere, the charming yet reticent - all while saving a despondent Bater from his suicidal tendencies as he yearns for their past life. Through this tapestry of human emotion and survival, "Tuya's Marriage" weaves an intricate tale of love, sacrifice, and resilience in a world where tradition meets reality.
