The Thin Red Line (1998)

Witt is a young soldier in the South Pacific during World War II. He goes AWOL and spends time in a Melanesian village with the locals, but his sergeant catches and imprisons him. Witt and the rest of his company have been sent to invade Guadalcanal. As the invasion gets underway, the men rise or fail to rise to the occasion, each confronting his own demons and the horror of war and death.
