The Physician (2013)

In 11th Century England, Rob is a 9-year-old boy living in a mining town. When his mother dies suddenly of a “side pain,” Rob is orphaned and becomes obsessed with healing the sick. He meets a traveling barber-surgeon and learns healing methods. But when he hears about a fabulous medical school in Persia, he becomes determined to travel there to learn advanced medical techniques. The problem is that Rob is a Christian and the Persian school accepts only Jews. Rob goes to greats lengths to make the arduous one-year journey as he disguises himself as a Jew, including circumcising himself.
