The Painted Bird (2019)

Eastern Europe, sometime during WWII, and a young boy is sent by his parents to live with his aunt, where they believe he will be in less danger. When the aunt dies, the young boy begins an epic journey to return home. Dark, blunt, unsparing drama is shot in stark black and white. Will the boy survive the ravages of a bleak and merciless time or will he succumb, like so many others, to the everpresent brutality of war.
