Plot

In the quaint town of New Campton, California, newly appointed reverend Michael Hill and his two adolescent children, Carmel and Dean, move into the house next to the North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Michael steps into a role facing numerous challenges, such as a dwindling congregation and a resistant church secretary, Anne Woods, who preferred the traditional ways of her retired reverend father. As Michael navigates through his new responsibilities, he uncovers a sinister underbelly of the peaceful town - a sprawling illegal gambling operation run by organized crime that seems to puppeteer the town administration. His fervent public denunciation of this illicit activity during a televised service earns him reproof from Anne and the church presbytery, but also catches the attention of Marv Fogleman and Tom Voories, special investigators from the Treasury Department. The investigators covertly approach Michael, seeking his assistance to infiltrate and dismantle the gambling ring. Their plan is simple—find a few trustworthy men to place bets at known bookie sites and testify in court. However, Michael's male congregants are unwilling to participate, leaving him with an unlikely team of five female congregants and one honorary "female" member. This motley crew, although enthusiastic, seems to be far from the perfect operatives the investigators had in mind. Despite their initial blunders, causing a near nervous breakdown for Marv, the team remains undeterred. With or without the Treasury Department's support, they set their sights on the syndicate's most elusive and crucial component—their "bank". As they delve deeper into their mission, Michael and his team draw the attention of Max Roca, the head of the crime syndicate. Their lives, relationships, livelihoods, and even the church are put at risk. The question is, can they succeed in their mission and protect their town against the growing menace? And can Roca comprehend the relentless determination and the true motivation driving this band of unlikely heroes? "The North Avenue Irregulars" is a vivacious blend of faith, determination, and unlikely heroism, demonstrating that sometimes, the most unsuspected people can make the grandest of differences.
