Plot

In the heart of London, an unexpected hero arises in the form of Wallace Ritchie (Bill Murray), an American who innocently embarks on a visit to England to celebrate his birthday with his brother James (Peter Gallagher). As James grapples with impending business engagements, he hastily arranges a unique birthday gift for Wallace- a ticket to the "Theatre of Life," an immersive audience participation game that thrusts its players into the thrilling depths of a crime drama. However, the lines of fiction and reality blur dramatically when Wallace is erroneously identified as a genuine spy, a mistake that spirals him into an international plot of alarming magnitude. Amidst deadly encounters and dramatic shootouts, he becomes embroiled in a perilous mission to prevent the assassination of Russian dignitaries on the verge of signing a significant peace treaty. To Wallace, his escapades are nothing more than the theatrics of the "Theatre of Life," an elaborately staged act where he's the star. But to the dangerous individuals seeking to reignite the flames of the Cold War, he's a formidable adversary and public enemy number one. As the plot thickens around him, Wallace remains blissfully oblivious, believing it all to be part of the exhilarating game. The Man Who Knew Too Little is a whirlwind of mistaken identities, high stakes, and one man's comedic journey through a world of espionage he thinks is all part of the act.
