The Lullaby (2017)

Returning to her roots in the quaint town of Eden Rock, the young and bewildered Chloe van Heerden (19) grapples with the complexities of newfound motherhood. Beset by the relentless wails of her newborn and the stifling criticism of her own mother, Ruby (35), Chloe finds herself sinking into a desolate abyss of guilt and paranoia. Her maternal instincts intensify, transforming every mundane situation into a potential threat to her child. Unable to bear the weight of her mounting fears, Chloe seeks help from family psychologist, Dr. Timothy Reed (40s). He attributes her intrusive thoughts and escalating anxiety to a typical case of postpartum depression, commonly known as the baby blues. However, Chloe's mental torment escalates, her mind now plagued with whispers of a haunting lullaby from her childhood and glimpses of a sinister presence encircling her baby. Convinced of the reality of this ominous presence, Chloe becomes resolute in her mission to shield her son, her descent into madness reaching an alarming intensity. As those around her turn against her, she seeks refuge in the comforting presence of her childhood confidant, Emile Hess (20s). Soon, Chloe's world crumbles, exposing her and her child to an immediate threat. But the question remains: is Chloe wrestling with an actual malevolent force or is she merely a victim of her own troubled mind?
