The Last Inhabitant (2016)

Amid the desolate landscape of an Armenian hamlet, ravaged by the ceaseless Armenian-Azeri conflict, resides Abgar, the last inhabitant. Left behind in an ever-tightening noose of hostility, he waits, yearning for his daughter. She is the traumatized witness to her husband's brutal assassination, her mind fractured by the merciless mob violence, leaving her confined within the sterile walls of a mental institution. Enter Ibrahim, an Azeri, who extends to Abgar a lifeline wrapped in a peculiar bargain; to work on the construction of a mosque, in exchange for reuniting him with his daughter. A few sunrises later, Ibrahim fulfills his promise and presents Yurga, pulled from the grips of a Baku psychiatric facility, back into Abgar's arms. However, the desire to escape the village with his daughter is hindered by the relentless demand for his stonemason skills. Abgar soon confronts the harsh reality; his work in the Azerbaijani village is unending, a never-ending cycle of stones and mortar. He realizes he's caught in a bind, a prisoner of circumstance in a land that once was home. The Last Inhabitant is a tale of resilience, sacrifice, and the relentless pursuit of freedom in the face of adversity.
