The Hot Rock (1972)

In the vibrant underbelly of the crime world, a charismatic quartet of thieves is assembled by the mastermind, Dortmunder. Comprising of the explosive expert Greenberg, the dexterous driver Murch, and the nimble locksmith Kelp, who also happens to be Dortmunder's brother-in-law, they are tasked with an intriguing mission. Commissioned by Dr. Amusa, an African ambassador, their objective is the audacious heist of the Sahara Stone - a museum-encased diamond of immense cultural significance to Dr. Amusa's homeland, a relic stolen during the colonial era. However, the diamond proves to be as elusive as a desert mirage, always shimmering just beyond their reach. Despite their meticulous planning and expertise, a string of unfortunate circumstances and sheer bad luck keeps the precious gem tantalizingly out of their grasp. The group finds itself caught in a relentless cycle of heists, each one more daring than the last, as they attempt time and again to secure the coveted diamond. In the midst of this thrilling chase, is the enigmatic presence of Greenberg's father, a shrewd lawyer with ambiguous intentions.
