Plot

In the heart of New York City, Lucas, a young vagabond, finds himself clinging to life after a desperate suicide attempt. His solitary existence takes a remarkable turn when he crosses paths with Jacques, the brusque and ailing owner of a small, offbeat bar. Suffering through his fifth or possibly sixth heart attack, Jacques takes Lucas under his wing, grooming him to inherit his bar and its idiosyncratic rules: no warmth or friendliness, no walk-in customers, absolutely no food, flowers, or candles, and a nightly ritual of storing the cash in the freezer. Lucas, however, is a man whose heart beats to a vastly different rhythm. He's generous, personable, engaging with customers in a way that defies Jacques' gruff ethos. His compassionate nature shines brightest when April, a young French woman, stumbles into the bar, lost after flunking out of flight-attendant school and frozen to her core. Lucas opens his heart and the bar's doors to her, stirring a conflict that threatens to unsettle their unconventional haven. Will Lucas choose loyalty to his grumpy mentor Jacques or follow his own kind-hearted instincts, especially when it comes to sheltering the vulnerable April? This poignant tale explores the depths of human connection, the struggle between tradition and change, and the healing power of kindness.
