Plot

In the wake of a tragic car accident that claims their parents, Penny finds herself grappling with the role of sole caretaker for her ailing younger sister, Mary, afflicted with an incurable disease. Once a promising poet, Penny now treads the grimy underworld as a courtesan to scrape together a living. Yet, in the midst of this darkness, Mary strives to reignite the embers of hope in Penny's heart through her treasured BOOK OF STARS. With the guidance of the Professor, a compassionate neighbor and friend, Mary embarks on a clandestine correspondence on Penny's behalf with a Prisoner. This unlikely ally finds inspiration in Penny's youthful anthology of poetry, a beacon in his own bleak existence. Mary's BOOK OF STARS serves as a testament to her dreams, yet it is Penny who is destined to actualize its conclusion when Mary succumbs to her illness. Mary's demise tugs Penny back from the precipice of self-destruction, urging her to embrace her sister's legacy—a tapestry of magic, luminescence, and the anticipation of better days. The profound bond of sisterhood, steeped in trust and love, forms the beating heart of this tale, reminding Penny—and all of us—of the enduring promise of tomorrow.
