Plot

In the nostalgic haze of 1963's forthcoming summer, we're introduced to Dr. Monk Monahan, a figure once defined by his carefree high school days and a reckless disregard for consequences. Now, a seasoned physician, he reflects on the life-altering incidents that shaped his medical career path. His journey is deeply intertwined with his high school sweetheart, Kathy, and their best friends, Jim and Judy, a couple set to marry before Judy departs for college. This impending union stirs a tumultuous storm of unrequited love within Kathy, who secretly cherishes feelings for Jim. On the eve of the wedding, Monk and Jim, succumbing to their youthful desires, become entangled with ladies of the night. The aftermath leaves Jim guilt-ridden, his conviction that loveless intimacy is hollow amplifies his remorse. This turmoil provides Kathy with an opportunity to console Jim, deepening their bond. However, when Jim starts demonstrating alarming health symptoms, he is forced to consult a doctor. The diagnosis: syphilis. As the reality of his affliction sinks in, he grapples with the potential harm he may have caused to his sexual partners and their subsequent partners due to his initial silence about the contraction. This unforgettable summer of '63, brimming with love, betrayal, and a stark confrontation with the harsh realities of sexually transmitted diseases, sets Monk on a path to battle the very diseases he once naively underestimated.
