Styria (2014)

In the shadowy folds of the Iron Curtain, Lara (Eleanor Tomlinson) embarks on an eerie journey with her alienated father, Dr. Hill (Stephen Rea), to a crumbling castle on the outskirts of the enigmatic Hungarian town of Styria. Their arrival disturbs the quietude of the surrounding woods with a chilling car crash, from which the striking and enigmatic Carmilla (Julia Pietrucha) miraculously escapes, despite a menacing driver's attempt to end her life. Lara, captivated by Carmilla's allure, offers her refuge within the castle's ancient walls, sparking an intoxicating yet tumultuous bond. As their connection deepens, a wave of madness sweeps through Styria, its youthful female residents particularly affected. With local girls succumbing to what appears to be a rash of suicides, Lara is drawn into a spiralling suspicion.
