Plot

In the swirling, jazz-infused haze of a New York Italian speakeasy, Mississippi-born belle Isabelle and her fiery, quick-witted Jersey beau Henry find themselves in a world far removed from their own. Amidst the clinking glasses and smoky shadows, they cross paths with a genial retired judge, setting the stage for an evening of unexpected twists. Irked by the evening's proceedings, Henry storms out to deal with his illegally parked car, leaving Isabelle alone, her heart pulsating with the rhythm of the city. Suddenly, the evening takes a melodic turn. Isabelle's adoration for opera becomes her saving grace as her favorite vocalist, the enchanting Di Ruvo, or 'Gus' as he prefers, is also reveling in the speakeasy's vibrant energy. As the two dance and the night unravels, Henry returns, igniting a fiery confrontation, and departs in a huff. Without hesitation, Isabelle steps into the allure of the unknown, accepting Gus's invitation to his apartment. Despite his self-confessed 'strictly dishonorable' intentions, she is drawn into his world. Meanwhile, a frantic Henry spins a tale of Isabella's 'kidnapping by villains' to Officer Mulligan, setting the stage for a climax as unpredictable as the city itself.
