Somewhere in Time (1980)

In the shimmering glow of his first theatrical triumph in 1972, young playwright Richard Collier (Reeve) finds himself caught in the web of a beguiling mystery when an enigmatic elderly woman approaches him, uttering only the cryptic plea, "Come back to me." She leaves him with a peculiar watch, its face inscribed with the portrait of a woman whose beauty transcends time. Fast forward eight years, and Richard is drawn to the majestic Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. Here, he stumbles upon an old photograph of the same woman, the radiant actress Elise McKenna, who once graced the hotel’s stage in 1912. This discovery launches Richard into a swirling obsession, as he strives to understand the connection between them and the cryptic message the woman left him on that fateful night in 1972 -- the night she passed away. Richard's fascination with Elise blooms into a love as timeless as the woman herself. As he delves deeper into her past, an intriguing idea proposed by a former college professor seizes his mind: the possibility of time travel through intense self-hypnosis. Consumed by his profound feelings for Elise, Richard embarks on an audacious journey, bending the fabric of time itself to reunite with her on the cusp of her glory in the year 1912.
