Plot

In the bittersweet drama, Something About Love (1988), Wally Olynyk (Stefan Wodoslawsky), a man disillusioned by his failed ambitions, finds himself journeying back to his roots in the austere steel town of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. After years in the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles, Wally's return to his hometown is a stark contrast, the city's harsh industrial landscape mirroring the unresolved tensions in his personal life. His homecoming is not just to attend his high-school reunion but is also a poignant reconciliation with his aging father Stan (Jan Rubes). As the local mortician, Stan is a pillar of the community, yet privately he grapples with the encroaching shadows of Alzheimer's disease. However, his stubborn nature refuses to acknowledge the unsettling reality of his deteriorating mind. This emotionally charged narrative explores the tumultuous relationship between father and son, their clash echoing the stark disparity between the sprawling metropolis of Los Angeles and the somber Canadian steel town. Something About Love (1988) is a compelling tale of homecoming, familial bonds, and the challenging acceptance of life's inevitable changes.
