Plot

Bathed in the raw energy of Seattle's burgeoning grunge scene, "Singles" is a resonant exploration of love, friendship, and music among six intertwined lives in a shared two-story apartment building. Janet Livermore, a waitress and budding architect, is hopelessly entangled in a non-exclusive relationship with Cliff Poncier, the charismatic frontman of grunge band Citizen Dick. Despite Cliff's candidness, Janet's unyielding love propels her to extraordinary lengths to keep him. Parallel to their story, Steve Dunne, engrossed in his city speed train project, experiences love at first sight with Linda Powell, a passionate environmentalist he meets at a club. Linda, however, carries the weight of her past relationships, marked by poor choices and deception. As they begin to navigate their relationship, the promise of their 'happily ever after' hinges on their perceptions and the elusive rules of "the dating game." Simultaneously, Debbie Hunt, caught in a state of romantic limbo, decides to explore love through a video dating service, a gag gift from her friends. "Singles" weaves these engaging narratives together, creating a dynamic tapestry of young love and heartache, laughter, and life lessons. Set against a powerful grunge soundtrack featuring Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and Mudhoney, it captures the essence of an era and the complexities of the singles scene in a way that is as compelling as it is humorous. Whether you're a die-hard grunge fan or a romantic comedy enthusiast, "Singles" promises a journey that's intriguing, funny and strikingly real.
