John Alighieri, once a resident of the glitzy gambling capital, Las Vegas, now finds himself living a life of quiet monotony in Albuquerque as a claims adjuster for Townsend Insurance LLC. With the echoes of his gambling days still haunting him, John is perpetually in search of luck, a concept he once believed in but now dismisses. His transition from Vegas to Albuquerque was meant to quench his gambling addiction, but he finds himself merely substituting poker tables with scratch and win tickets. In the maze of cubicles at Townsend Insurance, John's dreary days are punctuated by the sight of his attractive colleague, Jill, who unbeknownst to most, is romantically entangled with Mr. Townsend. Hopeful for a raise, John walks into Mr. Townsend's office one day, only to walk out bestowed with a new role—fraud investigator, working alongside the seasoned Virgil. John's initiation into his new job is far from ordinary, tasked with investigating a peculiar automobile accident claim involving a stripper named Tasty D Lite, who alleges she was rear-ended in the desolate desert. The claim raises eyebrows and doubts, especially for Virgil, who seizes control over their investigation, dictating their moves, their expenditure, and their line of questioning. As John and Virgil navigate the oddities of the US southwest in pursuit of clues, John attempts to kindle a romantic connection with Jill over long distance calls.
