In the aftermath of British colonial rule in India in 1947, a sunken ship laden with a vast fortune in gold, diamonds, and priceless artifacts lays unrecovered, its bounty lost to the ocean's depths. The affluent Motichand, driven by avarice, seeks the help of Bhairavi, a woman possessing mysterious occult powers. She reveals the key to the submerged treasure: a mermaid. With her supernatural abilities, Bhairavi summons the mermaid to the surface. The aquatic creature, portrayed by Shilpa Shetty, is rescued by the noble fisherman Raviraj (Venkatesh) and his crew, who offer her refuge, oblivious to her true nature. Unable to communicate like a human, the mermaid imitates those around her, leading everyone to believe she's touched by madness. Raviraj affectionately names her Sona. Bhairavi, bent on claiming the underwater treasure, must first bypass the protective Raviraj and his crew. She enlists the aid of Ganga (Malashri), a woman consumed by love and jealousy for Raviraj, who views Sona as a rival for his affections. Ganga's obsession with Raviraj blinds her to the point of considering murder. Unbeknownst to Raviraj, Sona's true identity remains hidden, as does her unusual transformation into a creature of scales and fins when wet.
