Plot

In the evocative film "Red Trees," celebrated director Marina Willer (Cartas da Mae) crafts a striking visual odyssey, retracing the harrowing footsteps of her father's family. They were one of a mere twelve Jewish families to emerge from the shadows of World War II after surviving the Nazi reign of terror in Prague. Captured through the lens of Oscar-nominated cinematographer, César Charlone (City of God), the film paints a journey from the scarred landscapes of Eastern Europe to the vibrant hues and life of South America. The story unfurls with the compelling voice of Willer's father, Alfred (voiced by Tim Piggot Smith, Quantum of Solace), a testament to the human spirit. He navigates the audience through a labyrinth of heart-wrenching bureaucratic ordeals, mass transportations, and untimely deaths, yet manages to endure. Rising from the ashes of war, Alfred carves a new existence as an architect in the exotic embrace of Brazil, creating a post-war life that is both a defiance against and a tribute to his past.
