Princess Tutu (2002)

Plot

In the world of junior high ballet, Ahiru, a name meaning 'Duck' in Japanese, stands out. She's a young, endearing girl, often tripping over her words and her feet. Despite her clumsiness, she harbors a deep affection for her aloof senior, Mytho, a boy seemingly lost in his own world. The twist in Ahiru's seemingly ordinary life comes when she learns the truth about Mytho. He's not just an enigmatic ballet student, but a prince sprung from the pages of a tale penned by the enigmatic Drosselmeyer. In Drosselmeyer's narrative, Mytho, the prince, vanquished an evil crow, but at a steep cost: his heart shattered into pieces, leaving him devoid of emotion and understanding. Despite his supposed demise, Drosselmeyer returns, entrusting Ahiru with a daunting mission. She must transform into Princess Tutu, a magical ballerina, to retrieve the scattered fragments of Mytho's heart. Complicating matters is Fakir, Mytho's roommate and fellow dancer, who maintains a manipulative hold over him, seemingly content to nurture Mytho's heartless existence. Moreover, Ahiru grapples with an astonishing revelation from Drosselmeyer. Her recurrent dream, where she's a simple duck, is her reality. Transformed into a girl solely for her mission, she teeters on the edge of her own identity. A single 'quack' could revert her back to her original form, making her task as Princess Tutu infinitely more challenging. In this world of ballet and magic, Ahiru must dance her way through trials and tribulations, all for the love of a prince with a missing heart.
