Open Graves (2009)

In the sun-drenched landscapes of Spain, American surfer Jason, his girlfriend Lisa, and his best friend Tomas, a photographer, find their lives intertwined with an ancient and ominous artifact. This relic, an old board game known as Mamba, is no ordinary game—it's crafted from the skin and bones of a witch named Mamba Masamba, executed during the dark days of the Spanish Inquisition. The game surfaces from the shadows of a dreadful store, the owner of which, a disabled man named Malek, offers it to Jason as an apology for a prior misunderstanding. Meanwhile, a heavy shroud of mystery descends over the town as Detective Izar investigates a gruesome death— a man found skinned alive. As the threads of this unsolved murder intertwine with the ominous board game, a deadly connection begins to unfold. One stormy night, amid the echoes of laughter and the clinking glasses of a beach party, Jason, Tomas, Lisa, and a mix of new acquaintances— Erica, Pablo, Miguel, and Elena— decide to play Mamba. Erica, reading the ominous rules aloud, reveals the chilling stakes: the winner’s wish will be granted, while the losers will fall victim to the grim fates described on the game's cards. The game is cut short when Detective Izar arrives with chilling news— Pablo, the first to lose, has met a gruesome end. As more players meet their untimely and horrifying fates, Jason delves into the haunting history of Mamba. His discovery that the game's pieces are made from the bones and skin of the witch, and the cards are inked with her blood and tears, only intensifies the terror. Faced with the horrifying reality of the game's curse, Jason and Erica make a desperate decision to finish what they started, hoping to break the curse that threatens to pull them under into the ultimate undertow of death. As the tension mounts, Open Graves delves into a terrifying exploration of fate, fear, and the deadly consequences of a game gone horribly wrong.
