Plot

In the warm, sun-drenched streets of a small town just south of Rome, two brothers, Manrico and Accio, embark on the tumultuous journey to maturity in the vibrant 1960s. Manrico, the handsome and somewhat wayward elder brother, becomes enamored with the idea of revolution, taking up the cause of left-wing politics. Accio, on the other hand, initially finds solace in the structured world of seminary life. However, he soon returns home, immersing himself in Latin studies and the allure of Fascism. Their lives intricately weave with Francesca, a sophisticated, aristocratic student. She slips into the role of Manrico's passionate lover, while also forming a unique bond with Accio. Over the span of a transformative decade, the trio navigates the convoluted paths of family dynamics, the exhilarating rush of love, the magnetic pull of attraction, the intense fervor of politics, and the daunting prospect of adult responsibilities. Interweaving subplots enrich the narrative, such as Nastri, a paternal figure who becomes Accio's political compass, and Nastri's wife Bella, who offers Accio different forms of guidance. As the brothers' parents and sister are simultaneously bewitched by Manrico's charisma and reliant on Accio's steadfastness, a captivating family drama unfolds. The film, My Brother Is an Only Child, offers a compelling exploration of the complexities of growing up amidst political turmoil and familial expectations.
