Set against the backdrop of 19th century London, esteemed medical practitioner, Sir Robert Cargrave, becomes entangled in a chilling tale of horror and desperation when he receives an invitation from his long-lost love, Baroness Maude Sardonicus. The missive beckons him to her husband's foreboding castle in Gorslava, a place that casts a shadow of fear over the local inhabitants due to its infamous owner, Baron Sardonicus. Upon his arrival, Sir Robert is met with a horrifying spectacle as he witnesses Sardonicus's butler, Krull, performing a grotesque experiment on a maid using leeches. The Baron, a man shrouded in mystery by a mask that conceals his face, invites Sir Robert for a private conversation, unveiling a chilling secret. Beneath the mask and the title of Baron, lurks a former peasant Marek Toleslawski whose life took a macabre twist due to a winning lottery ticket and a nightmarish trip to his father's grave. Haunted by the face of his dead father, Marek's visage is eternally frozen in a dreadful grimace, transforming him into the horrifying figure known as Baron Sardonicus. Driven by desperation, Sardonicus presents Sir Robert with a sinister ultimatum - restore his face or witness the disfigurement of Maude, the woman Sir Robert once loved. As the story unfolds, the audience is given a unique opportunity to determine the fate of the wretched Baron through a "Punishment Poll", adding another layer of suspense to this spine-chilling tale. Will Sir Robert manage to save Maude from her husband's monstrous threats? Or will Sardonicus pay for his deeds in a manner deemed fitting by the audience?
