Plot

In the frostbitten reaches of the Arctic Sea, 1794, Captain Robert Walton obsessively seeks to conquer the North Pole, driving his crew to the brink of endurance. Their voyage meets a chilling halt when their ship collides with an iceberg, imprisoning them in a frozen wasteland. Amidst the desolation, a horrifying cry tears through the silence, heralding the arrival of an enigmatic stranger - Victor Frankenstein. Victor, a brilliant scholar from Geneva, unravels his life's tale to the Captain, a tale steeped in knowledge, love, and a tragic pursuit of immortality. His childhood was marked by a profound affection for his stepsister and ward, Elizabeth, a bond that promised a shared future. Leaving his home in 1793, Victor ventures to Ingolstadt to further his education. Here, he forms an indelible friendship with fellow student, Henry Clerval, and is drawn to the wisdom of Professor Waldman. Under Waldman's tutelage, Victor's fascination with life and death intensifies. Against Waldman's counsel, he becomes entrenched in a daring experiment - to defy death and create life. Following Waldman's demise, Victor seizes upon his notes to breathe life into an assemblage of deceased parts, giving birth to a formidable Creature. The magnitude of his achievement quickly withers into regret as Victor confronts the abomination he has created. Abandoning his creation in the hopes it would perish, Victor unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events that will haunt him. Far from meeting its end, the Creature thrives. It learns to read, to write, and to understand its monstrous existence. Shunned by society and forsaken by its creator, the Creature embarks on a vengeful quest of its own. Thus, Sir Kenneth Branagh escorts us through the labyrinth of Frankenstein's thirst for knowledge and his Creature's desperate search for paternal acceptance. Their intertwined fates weave a chilling narrative that clings tightly to the fabric of Mary Shelley's original masterpiece.
