This is a biopic of the life and death of Mary Stuart, who fights Elizabeth I for the throne of England. Mary was the Queen of France at 16 and a widow at 18. Elizabeth is a powerful and loved ruler and imprisons Mary in Scotland for years before ordering her execution. The intrigue is exacerbated by the fact these two women are fighting for a throne in a man’s world. They have to deal with betrayal, conspiracies and rebellion to hold or gain power. As history shows, protestant Elizabeth I was able to hold off the onslaught of Mary’s pressure, which was backed by Catholics.
