Man-Thing (2005)

In the enigmatic town of Bywater, Sheriff Kyle Williams steps into the shoes of his vanished predecessor, inheriting the curious case of 47 missing persons. Simultaneously, he is drawn into the orbit of oil tycoon Fred Schist, whose ambitions to drill in a Louisiana swamp are met with fierce resistance led by the spirited schoolteacher, Teri Richards. As Williams delves deeper, he unravels Schist's controversial acquisition of Dark Waters, a land deemed sacred by the native Indian Ted Sallis, who mysteriously disappeared after the deal. However, the swamp holds more than just secrets. A monstrous entity, a grotesque fusion of plants and vines, stirs from its slumber, awakened by the greed-fueled intrusion. Dubbed the Man-Thing, this creature possesses strange, lethal powers, using them to eliminate Schist and his associates in the swamp thicket, casting suspicions initially on the Seminoles. As Williams grows closer to Teri and pursues the elusive saboteur Rene Laroque, he senses an uncanny truth. Something in the swamp, the Man-Thing, appears to be the guardian of Dark Waters. Now, Williams must tread carefully in this intricate web of mystery and danger, for not only does he seek to find the missing persons and maintain peace in Bywater, but he's also caught up in a fight against an ancient force protecting its sacred home.
