Plot

In the heart of a quaint Indian town, two inseparable compadres, Babu and Malik, bask in the innocence and mischief of their youth. One day, their innocent prank of theft lands them in trouble. Malik finds his freedom thanks to his father's intervention, but Babu, an orphan, winds up in the juvenile centre. As they stride into adulthood, their paths diverge drastically. Malik dons the uniform of a Police Inspector, while Babu, victim of circumstance and societal prejudice, finds himself in the labyrinth of crime and prison. Upon his release, Babu reunites with Bali, his partner-in-crime, and they begin to blueprint their next escapade. Malik, in a last-ditch effort, urges Babu to abandon his life of crime. Babu agrees, having already been wrongfully accused once. When Bali and his gang are apprehended and blame Babu for their misfortune, a violent confrontation ensues, leading to Bali's untimely death. In the face of impending doom, Babu flees Bombay, seeking refuge in the remote Jogendranagar. It is here where he crosses paths with Bhagat, who coerces him into assuming the identity of Kundan, the sole heir of the affluent Shahji. Threatened by exposure, Babu steps into Kundan's shoes, charming his way into the hearts of Shahji, his wife Rukmani, and their daughter, Maya. As Babu pays off Bhagat in hushed installments, Bhagat's greed escalates, compelling Babu to plan a grand theft. But Babu is caught in a moral vortex. His affection for this unsuspecting family, and an unexpected romantic bond with Maya, his 'sister', complicate his situation. Babu is trapped, every move he makes only tightens the noose around his neck. With Bhagat, his newfound family, and the police hot on his heels, Babu must navigate his treacherous reality.
