Plot

In the web-woven world of cyberspace, Mario, a young Filipino, extends an invitation to his enigmatic internet pen pal, Alexis, all the way from Spain, to visit him in the heart of his homeland and meet his family. Under the tropical sun, the family awaits the arrival of a guest, their hearts humming with anticipation, their minds filled with the image of a girl named Alexis. The revelations that unfold shatter their expectations and lay bare the unspoken, as Alexis steps onto Philippine soil, not as a woman but a man. This unexpected twist in their tale sends ripples through their once predictable family dynamic, leaving them grappling with a reality they never anticipated. Caught in the crossfire of acceptance and denial, Mario's mother clings to her steadfast refusal to acknowledge her son's homosexuality, her maternal love wrestling with societal norms and personal beliefs. On the other hand, Mario's father's reaction unfolds in an unpredictable manner, adding layers of complexity to the narrative. "Lovebirds" is a vivid exploration of love, identity, and family, set against the vibrant backdrop of the Philippines, challenging perceptions and shaking the foundations of traditional family values.
