In the heart of Britain, Percy Brand (Sir Michael Redgrave) is a seasoned con artist with a talent for weaving tales as intricate as his schemes. Percy's life is a series of prison terms punctuated by brief stints of freedom, yet he skillfully conceals his criminal past under a cloak of honorable, plausible explanations for his recurrent absences.
