Plot

As the 20th century dawned, young lovers Gertrud and Ingmar find themselves entwined in a love that promises eternity. However, when winter pulls Ingmar away, a wave of new Christian fervor sweeps across their homeland, ensnaring even Gertrud in its wake. Led by a charismatic and persuasive priest, the religious followers are urged to voyage to the Holy Land, Palestine. In the midst of this spiritual upheaval, Ingmar's sister succumbs to the call of the new faith, selling their ancestral home in pursuit of salvation. The only solution for Ingmar to reclaim his heritage is a marriage of convenience with Barbro, the daughter of their home's new owner. Bound to a woman he doesn't love, Ingmar watches as Gertrud, unable to bear the pain of their separation, joins the exodus to Palestine. But true love proves resilient. Ingmar, still tormented by his undying love for Gertrud, embarks on a journey of his own, leaving behind a life of obligation and stepping into a world of faith and longing. In the crossroads of love, faith and sacrifice, Ingmar and Gertrud's tale unfolds, painting a vivid portrait of early 20th century turmoil and devotion.
