Plot

Haunted by his past in the relentless streets of L.A. and a failed marriage, John Berlin, a battle-weary cop, seeks refuge in the tranquility of rural California, joining the Eureka police force. His arrival, however, stirs up animosity among his new colleagues, especially John "J.K." Taylor, who sees Berlin as a threat to his own ambitions. Instead of embracing a peaceful life, Berlin finds himself entangled in an unsettling mystery when he reopens an unsolved case of a serial killer hunting blind girls. Seven victims have already fallen prey, and Berlin suspects an eighth, "Jennifer 8," is imminent. Despite the police force's skepticism and dismissal of his theories, Berlin doggedly pursues the case, believing a body at the local dump is linked to the string of murders. As Berlin delves deeper into the case, he crosses paths with Helena Robertson, a blind student who bears an uncanny resemblance to his ex-wife. His attraction to her escalates into an obsession when he suspects Helena might be the killer's next target. Berlin's commitment to the case and his budding relationship with Helena push him to the brink of emotional and physical exhaustion, causing concern among those closest to him. One fateful night, during a stakeout at Helena's dormitory, Berlin is ambushed by the killer, leaving his friend and fellow cop, Freddy Ross, dead from a gunshot fired from Berlin's own weapon. Accused of Ross's murder, Berlin is thrust into a relentless interrogation by an FBI agent who is convinced of his guilt. Despite the mounting evidence against him, Berlin finds an ally in Ross's wife, Margie, who bails him out, believing in his innocence. With his reputation tarnished and his freedom at stake, Berlin embarks on a desperate quest to bring the real killer to justice, clear his name, and protect Helena from becoming the next victim. As Berlin navigates this labyrinth of suspicion and danger, he must outsmart a cunning murderer and confront the demons of his own past. In the eerie calm of rural California, the hunter becomes the hunted in this riveting tale of obsession, betrayal, and redemption.
