Isolation (2005)

In the heartland of rural isolation, Dan, a struggling bovine farmer, leases his farm to a mysterious scientist, John. John, affiliated with Bovine Genetics Technology, embarks on an ambitious experiment – altering cattle genetics to maximize fertilization. The experiment's results are entrusted to a pregnant cow, under the cautious supervision of a seasoned veterinarian, Orla. Unbeknownst to Dan, this scientific endeavor carries a dreadful secret. Orla is unexpectedly bitten by the unborn calf during a routine examination, sparking the first hint of unease. Brushing it off as an insignificant mishap, she downplays the incident to Dan, yet privately presses John for reassurances about the calf's health. Nightfall sees the pregnant cow in labor, struggling with a challenging delivery. In desperation, Dan enlists the aid of Jamie, a young squatter living in a trailer on his farm. The successful birth of the calf, however, brings more than relief—it brings a chilling surprise. Dan, attempting to care for the newborn, is also bitten. When Orla returns and examines the aggressive calf, she unearths a horrifying reality—the experiment has not only failed but birthed a genetically aberrant creature. Feeling a sense of duty, she ends the calf's life to perform an autopsy, revealing an even more disturbing truth—the calf was pregnant. As Orla exterminates the monstrous hybrids born from the calf, one manages to escape, wreaking havoc first on a cow, then on Jamie. As John returns to the farm, he faces the terrifying consequences of his experiment. The risk of human infection looms large, forcing him to quarantine the farm. However, the threat is far from over, as one monstrous offspring still lurks, awaiting capture in the dark corners of this isolated farmland. The stage is set for a chilling confrontation where science, nature, and survival intertwine.
