Ironside (1967)

On his first vacation in 25 years, chief detective Robert Ironside is shot by an unknown assaulter. After two days in coma he awakens. He survives, but has to spend the rest of his life in wheelchair. Ironside convinces his chief, commissioner Dennis Randall, to let him continue his work with the police, although as a volunteer, because he now has a pension. He also convinces Randall to give him an empty storage room on the third floor for his combined office and dwelling. Ironside will have a small staff, sergeant Ed Brown and officer Eve Whitfield, working with him. His first assignment is to assist in the investigation of the attack on himself. The team starts their work by targeting criminals whom might have tried to kill Ironside for revenge. Ed Brown comes up with a young black man, Mark Sanger, but when Ironside meets Mark, he immediately understands that this couldn't be the assaulter. Instead he makes an unexpected move and employs Mark as his personal assistant. Soon all clues point at another young criminal, Anthony Emmons, as the probable assaulter.
