Insiang (1976)

Imprisoned within the grim claws of the slums, Insiang leads a life of constant trial under the resentful gaze of her acid-tongued mother, Tonya. Abandoned long ago by her husband, Tonya channels her bitterness into a stream of scorn towards her surroundings. In a tempest of fury, she banishes her husband's dependents who share their abode, not for financial reasons as it appears, but to clear a path for her youthful lover, Dado, to take up residence. This local menace, young enough to be her offspring, soon becomes a hot topic of town gossip. In the blink of an eye, Dado imposes himself onto Insiang, sparking an initial rage in Tonya, which soon morphs into a shocking alliance with him, leaving Insiang blamed for her own violation. Severing ties with her home, Insiang seeks solace in the arms of her earnest suitor, Bebot, only to find another Casanova in disguise. Compelled to return to her hostile home, Insiang ingeniously flips her unavoidable predicament, weaving a web of revenge.
