Plot

Mark A. Lewis's darkly humorous odyssey, ILL FATED, immerses the audience in the confined existence of Jimmy, a young man trapped in the mundane labyrinth of small-town life. Each attempt to escape his provincial confines leads Jimmy to a dead-end, his dreams of college and liberation stifled by the complex web of his circumstances. His life, already complicated by his bumbling friends, emotionally volatile girlfriend, lascivious stepmother, and cuckolded stepfather, spirals further out of control with the unwelcome return of Earl, his absentee father. Earl, a notorious womanizer, had disappeared when Jimmy was a baby, leaving behind a scandalous legacy of having fathered a child with the wife of a fierce convict, who also happens to be his best friend. Earl's unexpected comeback serves as the spark that ignites a catastrophic chain of events. In this setting, director Lewis masterfully crafts a vividly raw depiction of a small-town dystopia, using the ensuing chaos as his canvas.
