Plot

In a world that's increasingly alienating and unfulfilling, Joan Mitchell, a suburban housewife on the cusp of her 40s, is tethered to a mundane existence. With a husband more interested in business than their marriage, and a 19-year-old daughter who's edging towards independence, Joan's life is devoid of the excitement she craves. Desperate to escape the ordinariness of her existence, Joan finds herself drawn to the enigmatic Marion Hamilton, a tarot reader who is also the secretive leader of a local wicca sect. Haunted by dreams imbued with oppression and violation, Joan is on the brink, yearning for empowerment and a sense of control. Inspired by Marion, she dips her toes into the mystical pool of witchcraft, seeking solace in this ancient practice. As her fascination deepens, Joan begins to believe in her own transformation into a bona fide witch, immersing herself in a world that's far removed from the monotonous reality she's known. Her newfound path becomes a sanctuary, a fantastical realm where she commands power and calls the shots. However, as she delves deeper, the boundary between her magical reveries and harsh reality begins to blur. Joan's intense journey into witchcraft spirals into an obsession, sending her life into a tailspin. As she retreats further into her magical refuge, the resulting chaos threatens to culminate in an unforeseen tragedy. Hungry Wives is a captivating exploration of a woman's quest for autonomy and purpose, even as it warns of the potential dangers that can arise when fantasy and reality collide.
