Plot

In the gripping episode of Hornblower: Duty, the narrative dives deep into the dual nature of duty, both to one's country and to one's heart. The episode unfurls with the union of Horatio Hornblower and Maria, the daughter of his erstwhile landlady. The awkwardness of a new husband and the yearning of a seasoned sailor are mirrored in Horatio's demeanor, subtly hinting at his true calling - the unforgiving sea. Summoned by Admiral Pellew, Hornblower sets sail in pursuit of the Grasshopper, a sloop led by their old comrade, Bracegirdle, which has mysteriously ceased communication. Amidst a tempest of nature's fury, they rescue a pair of shipwrecked passengers, a couple claiming Swiss nationality. However, the sea, much like truth, cannot keep secrets hidden for long, and it's soon revealed that they are none other than Napoleon's brother and his newlywed bride. In a clever twist of irony, Horatio finds wisdom in the dynamics of this captive couple, gaining insight into his own marital duties and affections. Meanwhile, the specter of past treachery looms as Hornblower once again crosses paths with Wolfe, the Irish turncoat now siding with the French. The realization of Wolfe's insidious plan dawns when three French frigates are spotted ominously near his encampment. Back home, Horatio grapples with the unfamiliar territory of marriage, learning to divide his life between his duty to his wife and his commitment to his country. Hornblower: Duty is a thrilling voyage that navigates the tumultuous seas of duty, loyalty, and love, leaving viewers enthralled at every twist and turn.
