Plot

In the heart of Brooklyn, 1998, we find Sam Gold, a spirited twenty-year-old Hasidic Jew, living under the traditional roof of his parents and younger siblings. His path is seemingly set - studying to be a rabbi alongside his friend Leon Zimmerman - a destiny Sam resists, harboring a yearning for business to alleviate his family's financial burden. Despite his father's disapproval, rooted in the belief that a money-centric life yields no virtue, Sam persuades him to allow him to join the family fabric store in bustling Manhattan, balancing work with his religious studies. Sam's sights are fixed on the charming Zeldy Lazar for marriage, a proposal that, to his dismay, is declined by the Lazar family. Convinced his financial status is to blame, Sam finds himself enticed by Leon's savvy elder brother, Yosef, a man of apparent wealth. Yosef proposes a business venture - collecting medication from Europe for affluent clients. The allure of quick wealth and a chance to prove his worth blinds Sam to the reality of the operation. Returning from a covert trip to Amsterdam, Sam is plunged into the shadowy world of illegal drug trafficking. Initial horror gives way to temptation as he cautiously navigates this underworld, keeping his family in the dark. His adeptness at the game quickly earns him favor with their enigmatic boss, Jackie Solomon, and his girlfriend, Rachel Apfel. Despite Yosef's warnings about balancing on the thin line between Jackie's favor and wrath, Sam is sucked deeper into the vortex of illicit trade. As Sam teeters on the precipice of two vastly different lives, a choice looms ominously. If he plunges too deep into this underworld, the path back to his former life may be irretrievably lost. The tale of Holy Rollers (2010) is a gripping journey of faith, temptation, and the dangerous allure of a life lived on the edge.
