Plot

As Europe trembles under the relentless onslaught of Napoleon's wars, the French leader finds himself in dire need of funds. His eyes turn westward, towards the untapped riches of the Louisiana Territory in the United States, a price tag of 20 million dollars dangling off this vast expanse of land. To seal this deal, Napoleon dispatches his brother, Jerome, to the New World on a mission of goodwill. Unheralded, Jerome's arrival coincides with a lively afternoon at a Maryland Horse Track. His charm and wit win him an impromptu tour with the captivating Betsy, who is the apple of the eye of not one, but three suitors - Henry, John, and Harry. Despite her initial resistance, Betsy finds herself drawn to the foreign charm of Jerome, and the two soon fall head over heels in love during their French lessons. Yet, their love story is not one of acceptance. Betsy's family dismisses Jerome as nothing more than a tutor, and their romance faces a formidable wall of disapproval. When a grand reception in Washington reunites the star-crossed lovers, Betsy agrees to marry Jerome, her heart won over by his persistent love. However, a new obstacle looms on the horizon. Napoleon, ever the pragmatist, wants Jerome to marry into European Royalty, a union that would bring more power to France. Torn between love and duty, Jerome must decide his path in this entrancing tale of hearts divided.
