Plot

A documentary examining the disastrous Fyre music festival scheduled to take place in 2017 at a luxurious facility on Great Exuma, a Bahaman island. The Fyre Festival was the brainchild of promoter William Z. McFarland and rapper Ja Rule. McFarland would eventually be convicted of defrauding investors of $27.4 million. Ja Rule was cleared of wrongdoing. The event promised luxury hotel accommodations and gourmet meals, but ticket buyers ended up with prepackaged cold sandwiches and FEMA tents. The miscalculations, organizational ineptitude and outright fraud of Fyre promoters ensnared major celebrities in social media promotion scandals and created sensational national headlines.
